Ramification of Urban Activity: City Manifold & Manometer

  1. What are some potential ramifications? How might these differentiated volumes deal with "pressure" differently? What are the different pressures that you might focus on, perhaps in terms of occupational cycles, environmental factors, time-cycles (rush-hour, for example), etc.? Perhaps it would be fruitful to cut this model in half, and use the top-chunk and bottom-chunk as separate starting points for your new versions / chunks (the overall scale seems in your current version seems a bit too generic). Also, the "manifold" doesn't seem to be so clear - can you focus on specific instances of how 2 or 3 spaces tunnel into one larger volume? And / or multiple tiny spaces all feed a complex intersection of two medium volumes? Manifold is such a powerful spatial tool - the trick is to maintain clarity and think about flow at the same time. At the moment, I wouldn't necessarily think of "manifold" by looking at your drawing - I'm only getting it from your title. Lastly, try to develop variable thicknesses in your section cut (all cut lines are equal at the moment) and also what about perforating some of the facets? Keep going, great jump!
